Dear Mr. Olsen:
I appreciate you taking the time to share with me your views regarding medical marijuana.
The views of my fellow Iowans are an essential component of my decision making process
as a Member of Congress.
As you know, on June 28th Congressman Maurice Hinchey offered an amendment to the
Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Bill which would prohibit the use
of federal funds to prevent implementation of State laws authorizing the use of
medical marijuana. I voted against this amendment. At this time I am not convinced
that marijuana use, even for medical reasons, should be made legal. I believe there
are other less dangerous drugs that offer just as much relief from pain and medical
conditions.
As I mentioned, your input is vitally important to me. Please be assured I will
keep your views in mind as the full House considers various issues in the upcoming
weeks and months of the 109th Congress. Furthermore, I periodically provide electronic
updates on issues I think my constituents might be interested in. If you would like
to receive the E-newsletter, please sign up at
my Web Site at http://boswell.house.gov. As always, my staff and I are here
to serve you. Please feel free to contact us if we ever can be of assistance to
you or to share your concerns.
Sincerely,
Leonard L. Boswell
Member of Congress
